Stigmata

This was the final piece in my senior thesis. I had only just finished reading Stigmata, by Phyllis Alesia Perry, and I was inspired to do a more graphic take on the cover.

This book pulls no punches in its discussion of slavery. The main character's empathetic connection with women in her family going back generations leads her to develop the wounds that were inflicted on her grandmother's grandmother.  I wanted to do a cover that would reflect that rawness and power that the story had, so I focused on those scars. They're bright and raw and in a color that pops out from the muted tones on the rest of the cover to draw your attention to them.
